Raffaele Dall’Olio is a beekeeper and a PhD animal biologist (University of Bologna) with a master’s degree in honeybee pathogens diagnostic (University of Pisa), skilled in artificial insemination of honeybee queens.

He had more than 12 year of experience with the Italian National Institute for Beekeeping (now CREA) in honeybee research and teaching focusing on genetic conservation of honeybee races, detection of pathogens and viruses, improving quality of beekeeping products.

He's member of the international research networks COLOSS (also Executive Committee member 2016-2019) and RNSBB (Research Network for Sustainable Bee Breeding).

As an internationally sought out speaker including the European Conference of Apidology and Apimondia, Raffaele has more than 50 publications in the field. As bee expert/ bee technicians, Raffaele developed breeding program for Italian Queen Producer Association (AIAAR) and actively helps for conservation Association for the Sicilian black bee (AAAMS), while also consulting for private companies, public authorities and NGOs (FAO).

As a beekeeper himself Raffaele is currently managing 100 colonies mainly for research purposes, and had commercial experience with Camperchi srl in Tuscany, Italy (2008), queen-rearing experience for Steens LDT (2014-2015) and bee-health monitoring for Manuka Health (2017) in New Zealand, and large company process consulting for OHB (2019, United States).
